Eddy Peach attended Oklahoma University on a baseball scholarship, where he was an All-American his senior year. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in education from OU.
Coach Peach arrived in Arlington in 1965, where he was the head baseball coach and assistant football coach at Arlington High School till 1970, recording 111 wins and 34 losses in baseball. In 1970 he was named the first head coach and athletic coordinator for the newly opened Lamar High School. He coached at Lamar from 1970 to 2010 with an official 40-year season record of 316-126-7. During his tenure, his teams earned 19 playoff appearances (13 consecutive), 16 district championships, 1 State Quarter Finals, 2 State Semi-Finals, and 1 State Finals. He was voted District Coach of the Year 15 times.
Eddy Peach was all about kids and humanity. He possessed the highest regard, caring, and respect for others. His sincere interest in other people and his desire to help when needed set him apart from the everyday human being. Eddy championed the willingness to help make a difference in the lives of young people. He had a tremendous influence on so many lives.
After he retired, he received many honors and distinctions, including the THSC Hall of Honor in 2017; Texas High School Football Hall of Fame, Class of 2017; Arlington Athletics Hall of Honor Inaugural Class of 2017; NFF Gridiron Club of Dallas Legends Award. The most incredible honor was he and his wife, Debbie, had an Arlington ISD elementary named after them, Eddy and Debbie Peach Elementary.
Above all the accolades and awards Eddy Peach received, the greatest treasure in his life was his family.
